Another Drunk Driving Hit and Run Fatality

A Guy’s Towing tow truck driver died Sunday morning, about seven hours after he was struck by an alleged drunken driver while trying to move a disabled vehicle on the side of the westbound lane of Interstate 10.

Blaze Louviere, 25, of Breaux Bridge, was standing on the shoulder of the interstate when a 2000 GMC Yukon driven by Luis Molina, 24, of Mission, Texas, struck him and continued driving, Trooper First Class Stephen Hammons said.

Other drivers and witnesses to the accident followed Molina into the Breaux Bridge city limits where Breaux Bridge police stopped and held him until State Police arrived to arrest him.

Louviere was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died at 9:20 a.m., Hammons said.

Molina was not injured in the crash, but troopers say he was drunk and was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail on counts of vehicular homicide, improper lane usage and felony hit-and-run.

Toxicology samples were sent to the state Crime Lab for analysis and the crash remains under investigation.

The number of hit and run car accidents is startling.  Frequently, the hit and run driver is also accused of being intoxicated at the time of the accident.  However, a delay between the accident and apprehension of the hit and run driver often renders criminal prosecution for DUI, vehicular negligent injury or intoxication manslaughter difficult, if not impossible.  Fortunately, civil lawsuits against the hit and run driver are also available to the victim and his or her family.  These lawsuits may include claims for punitive damages to punish the intoxicated hit and run and run driver for his or her egregious behavior.  The proven accident attorneys at Fisher Injury Lawyers have experience handling car wreck, hit and run, and punitive damage lawsuits.  Lead trial attorney, Bryan Fisher, secured a  $15,000,000.00 punitive damage jury verdict in a case against  Atmos Energy involving the dangerous mishandling of a natural gas leak.  In 2012, he recovered over $1.4 million dollars for a Texas family whose 20 year old child was killed by a hit and run driver.  Fisher has established himself has a winning advocate for victims of severe personal injury accidents and catastrophic loss claims.  He is here to help you.  Call him anytime.
