Baton Rouge, LA – Construction Worker Dies after Collision on I-10

Baton Rouge, LA (June 7, 2019) – A construction worker died after being struck by a vehicle near Mile Marker 134 along I-10, at the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, a little before 5:00 AM on May 22, 2019.

Members of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) had identified the victim as Andrew Torres.

According to the police report, construction crews had shut down a lane on the bridge to conduct repairs on the joints. During that time, Torres had been posting a traffic control sign to the back of a company pickup truck along westbound I-10. Without warning, an oncoming vehicle struck him and crashed into the sign.

As of now, the investigation continues. Officials are currently convinced that impairment was not a probable cause of the crash. Further details will be revealed as more information surfaces.

We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Andrew Torres. Our thoughts are with them.
