Beaumont Woman Killed in I-10 Accident

A 24-year-old woman who wasn’t wearing a seat belt was killed Friday when an unoccupied Jeep broke loose from a pickup towing it, crossed the median and struck the car the woman was riding in, according to a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release.

Grace Lee, of Beaumont, Texas, died after she was ejected from a vehicle in a collision on Interstate 10 east of Breaux Bridge. She was a passenger in a 2008 Nissan vehicle driven by Alycee Henley, 23, of Beaumont, the release states.

The Nissan was struck when a 2005 Jeep Liberty that was being towed in the westbound lanes behind a pickup driven by Angel Zermeno of Brownsville, Texas, broke loose and crossed the median into incoming traffic, the release states.

Henley and two other passengers in her car, all of whom wore seat belts, sustained moderate injuries from the crash, the release says.

Troopers do not suspect alcohol or drug impairment was a factor in the crash, the release says.

Police do not yet know what caused the Jeep to break loose while in tow, but the investigation is ongoing, the release says.
