Calcasieu Parish, LA – Man Killed In Multi-Vehicle Crash With Semi On I-10

Calcasieu Parish, LA (July 20, 2019) – Louisiana State Police were at the scene of a crash around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16th, in Calcasieu Parish. The incident involved three vehicles, including an 18-wheeler and happened on I-10 near Vinton.

The crash resulted in the death of one person involved.

The deceased was identified as 54-year-old Stephen Duane Bertram, a native of DeQuincy.

Initial reports indicate that 34-year-old Justin Anthony Chong, of Asheville, North Carolina, was driving a 2013 Freightliner 18-wheeler eastbound on Interstate 10. Chong ran his vehicle off the left side of the interstate, crossing the center median and striking two vehicles, one a 2009 Chevrolet pickup driven by 24-year-old Zachary Flessner and the other a 2011 Chevrolet SUV driven by Bertram.

Bertram sustained fatal injuries in the crash despite being properly restrained.

Flessner was also injured and taken to a Beaumont-area hospital. Chong and his passengers were additionally hospitalized for treatment.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
