Edgard, LA – 2 Killed In 2-Vehicle Crash On LA-3127

Edgard, LA (July 20, 2019) – There was a collision resulting in two fatalities in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 20th. The incident was reported to have occurred on LA-3127 east of LA-640 and involved two vehicles. Louisiana State Police was notified of the crash around 6:00 a.m. 

The two deceased parties have been identified by local authorities as 44-year-old Lonnie Doucet, of Lafayette, and 38-year-old Mindi Becnel, of Boutte. 

Initial reports indicate that Doucet was traveling in a 2007 Honda CRV westbound on LA-3127, while Becnel was traveling in a 2007 Kia Optima east on the roadway. Doucet is reported to have crossed the center line and striking Becnel’s vehicle for unknown reasons. 

Despite being properly restrained at the time of the crash, both Becnel and Doucet were pronounced dead by the St. John the Baptist Parish Coroner’s Office. 

Routine toxicology tests are currently pending. The cause of the accident is under investigation by local officials.
