Elton, LA – Driver Dies During Two-Vehicle Crash On LA 26 Near US Hwy 190

Elton, LA (July 31, 2019) – Local authorities recently confirmed that a driver had died during a two-vehicle crash that occurred along LA 26 yesterday, July 31, 2019.

According to the original report from police, 27-year-old John Russell Venissat V (a resident of Gueydan) had been driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla down southbound 26. At the same time, 66-year-old Joanette L. Klumpp (a resident of Kinder) was driving a 2010 Chevrolet pickup truck from the opposing direction. For reasons still unknown, Venissat slid his vehicle across the centerline and slammed into Klumpp’s truck.

Police confirmed that, even though he had been wearing a seatbelt, Venissat sustained life-threatening injuries and died at the crash site.

Klumpp and her passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the accident and were brought to a local Lafayette hospital for further treatment and monitoring.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of John Russell Venissat V at this time.  Our thoughts are with Joanette L. Klumpp, her passenger, and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
