Gonzales, LA – Unrestrained Passenger Killed In Crash On LA-74

Gonzales, LA (September 2, 2019) – There was a deadly car crash near Gonzales, LA, on the evening of Sunday, September 1. The crash happened on LA-74 east of I-10 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of a 42-year-old resident of Prairieville, LA. 

The Louisiana State Police (LSP) has identified the deceased victim as Brandy Rowell, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Rowell was a passenger in a 2011 Honda Accord traveling eastbound on LA Hwy 74. The Honda was being driven by 34-year-old Jacob Mullins, also from Prairieville, LA.

At the same time, a 2004 Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on the roadway. For unknown reasons, Mullins failed to yield the right-of-way and made a left turn into the path of the Ford. This caused the Ford to strike the passenger side of the Honda. 

Rowell was unrestrained and sustained serious injuries upon impact. She was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Mullins was also seriously injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
