Harvey, LA – Pastor among Three Fatalities in Pedestrian Crash on US 90B

Harvey, LA (June 21, 2019) – A local news source confirms that one of the victims who died in a pedestrian accident on Sunday had been a pastor from Natchitoches.

Based on the report issued by the Louisiana State Police, 40-year old Todd Williams had been driving east along US 90B in the Jefferson Parish area at some time around 10:30 PM last Sunday. At some point, his vehicle slammed into three people who had left their parked SUV.

Authorities pointed out that 49-year old Pastor Claude Williams had been tending to his broken-down vehicle, damaged from an earlier accident, and had received help from the other two people. After Williams’ car slammed into them, the trio was launched over the expressway and onto the ground far below.

Emergency crews sadly confirmed that Pastor Williams and the other two victims, 49-year-old William Leinart and 66-year-old Ivan Chopin, had died during the impact.

Following his release from a medical center, Williams was sent to Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on the charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular negligence, careless driving, driving without a seatbelt, and interchanging a license plate. Police speculate the culprit had been intoxicated during the incident.

We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of Pastor Claude Williams, William Leinart, and Ivan Chopin. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
