Kaplan, LA – Abbeville Man Killed In Wreck At LA-14 & Odilon Rd

Kaplan, LA (July 28, 2019) – Sometime before 2:00 a.m. in the early morning, Louisiana State Police were at the scene of an accident in Vermillion Parish on Sunday, July 28th. The crash happened on LA-14 near Odilon Rd.

The man was identified as 54-year-old Torlin Williams of Abbeville.

Williams was traveling west in a 2017 Nissan Maxima on LA-14 while Starlet Rodrigue was driving east on the roadway in a 2019 Toyota Camry.

For unknown reasons, Williams car drifted across the centerline when both he and Rodrigue were attempting to navigate a curve on the highway. The cars collided, and Williams vehicle was split in two on impact.

Williams sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seat belt use is believed to be a factor in the severe damage to the Maxima.

Rodrigue and her passenger were both properly restrained and were unharmed in the crash.

The accident is under investigation.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Torlin Williams at this time.

Unrestrained Crashes in Louisiana

Nearly 14,955 lives were saved in 2017 directly due to seat belt use.

However, many people still choose not to wear a seat belt, with over 10 percent of the population driving while not properly restrained. This can result in significant injuries in the event of a crash, and in particularly severe accidents, crashes can result in the death of unrestrained passengers.
