Motorcycle Rider Killed In Livingston Parish

A motorcyclist was killed in Livingston Parish Friday after he slammed into a pickup truck that had turned directly into his path, State Police said on Saturday.

Cary A. Infinger, 36, Walker, was riding a 2007 Buell motorcycle west on La. 63 west of La. 449 about 7:30 p.m. Friday, Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said in a news release.

According to Sandifer’s release, the crash happened when 35-year-old Eric R. France, Walker, heading east in a 2012 Chevrolet pickup, tried to turn left off La. 63.

Infinger laid the motorcycle on its side when France turned in front of him, trying to avoid the collision, the release says. Infinger was unable to stop and crashed into the passenger side of the pickup.

Infinger was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered serious injuries, although he was wearing a helmet. He died later at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, the release says.

State Police are continuing to investigate the crash, and charges might be pending, Sandifer’s release says.

This is the latest in a long line of motorcycle and bicycle accidents involving in attentive automobile drivers.  Cyclists are harder to see and require greater margins of safety than automobile traffic.  In some cases, the law affords the cyclist additional protection as n the 3 foot buffer zone for bicyclists.  However, these protections are not enough.  Ultimately, driver education and laws punishing distracting driving habits as texting and talking on cell phones will provide a safer environment for cyclists.  Until then, those motorcycle and bicycle operators who are injured or killed by inattentive car drivers must resort to civil lawsuits to help compensate them or their loved ones for their injuries.  The proven trial attorneys at Fisher Injury Lawyers are experienced in motorcycle and bicycle cases.  We own and ride motorcycles ourselves so bring a first hand approach to these cases.  Call us anytime.  We are here to help.
