New Iberia, LA – 9-Year-Old Killed In Head-On Collision On LA-31

New Iberia, LA (August 28, 2019) – Police were called to the scene of a head-on collision on Tuesday, August 27 that led to the fatality of a 9-year-old child on LA-31.

The accident took place around 5 p.m. last evening near the Ruth Bridge Highway and involved three passenger vehicles. Police confirmed that a Ford Explorer was stopped in the southbound lanes of LA-31 waiting to make a left turn. A Ford F-150 was traveling south and swerved into the northbound lane to avoid striking the Explorer.

The Ford also struck a Honda Accord head-on traveling in the northbound lane, according to authorities.

A 9-year-old passenger in the Accord was severely injured and quickly transported to a local hospital. While there, he succumbed to his injuries and was tragically pronounced deceased.

All other individuals involved in the accident received injuries, some of whom were hospitalized.

Charges are pending and the investigation into the accident continues.
