New Orleans, LA – 7 Injured, 2 Critical after 2-Vehicle Crash along Chef Menteur Hwy

New Orleans, LA (June 6, 2019) – This afternoon, seven people sustained injuries, leaving two in critical condition, after a two-vehicle accident along the Chef Menteur Highway, near Papania Drive.

Officers from the New Orleans Police Department explained that a gold Kia sedan had been heading eastbound along Chef Menteur and executed a left turn on Papania Drive. Without warning, the vehicle collided with a black Nissan SUV, that had been heading westbound. As a result of the impact, the Nissan’s hood was smashed and the Kia was ripped apart, its trunk lying in front of the scene.

A little before 1:00 p.m., EMS officials were dispatched to the scene of the crash. Reports confirm that the emergency teams took five victims to nearby hospitals, while the two victims with critical injuries were sent to the University Medical Center’s trauma unit.

Authorities have not confirmed how many people were in each vehicle during the crash and have not revealed if any pedestrians had been injured as well.

No details about the victims’ identities or the extent of their injuries have been disclosed.
