August 16, 2013 Pedestrian Killed in Late Night Crash State Police say a late night crash has taken the life of a Central resident. The crash happened on LA Hwy 67 just north of Port Hudson-Pride Road shortly after midnight. Investigators say Britt Efferson, 24, was walking on LA Hwy 67 when he stepped into the road to flag down a vehicle. Michael Parker, 25, of Zachary was driving northbound and was unable to avoid hitting Efferson as he stepped into the roadway. Efferson died as a result of his injuries from the crash. Impairment on his part is suspected, toxicology samples have been submitted for analysis. Parker has not been cited for the crash, police do not believe he was impaired at the time of the accident. As mentioned in our recent blog entry regarding another local pedestrian accident, the determination by authorities not to arrest or cite the driver in this case does not preclude bringing a successful personal injury claim on behalf of the deceased's family. While the investigating officers have a number of factors to consider when making this decision, legal fault or responsibility for an accident such as this, and the resulting death, involves weighing other factors which may be different than those used by the officers. For this reason, a victim's family in an accident such as this should contact an established and knowledgeable injury attorney who can begin to fight for and protect their family's rights immediately. The trial team here at Fisher Injury Lawyers has that exact knowledge and experience that is needed to successfully pursue a claim such as this one.
