- Call a family member or friend to the accident scene to assist you and to bear witness to what is happening.
- Never attempt to drive if you are dazed, injured or on strong medications.
- Report the accident to your insurance company.
- Get damage estimates on any of your property that was damaged in an accident.
- Try to get the responsible party’s insurer to pay for your medical bills, but do not sign any releases.
- Never sign any type of releases unless your attorney advises you to do so.

DON’Ts: What Not to Do if You Suffer a Personal Injury
- Don’t let anyone talk you out of calling the police or the proper authorities.
- Don’t sign any types of releases – or any checks that contain printed release language.
- Don’t give recorded statements to insurance adjusters.
