Plane Crash Kills Three in Maryland,  Three Others Presumed Dead, One Missing

Three people on board a small, private jet were killed when the plane crashed into a house in Maryland’s Montgomery County, MyFoxDC.com reported.

Three residents of the home are unaccounted for, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Chief Steve Lohr said.

At least three people didn’t survive the Monday crash into the home in Gaithersburg, a Washington, D.C. suburb, said Pete Piringer, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman.

Piringer said a fourth person may have been aboard.

Piringer said the jet crashed into one home around 11 a.m., setting it and two others on fire. Crews had the fire under control within an hour and were searching for anyone who may have been in the homes. An eye witness described the jet as flying low, gear down and inverted just prior to impact with the house.

Planes do not just fall from the sky. There is ALWAYS a reason for or cause of an aviation crash. The cause may be mechanical/electronic, pilot error, weather or other failure or some combination of causes. A thorough and immediate investigation will determine the cause(s) of this tragic accident. That investigation will be led by the FAA with the participation of other state and federal authorities as needed. But it is also important that the families of the victims of this accident have a role in the investigation.
