June 19, 2019 Simsboro, LA – DOTD Worker Killed After Being Pinned by Semi at LA-563 & I-20 Simsboro, LA (June 18, 2019) – Early Tuesday morning on June 18th, a state worker was killed while performing job duties after being struck by a semi-truck. The crash happened on LA-563 near I-20 in Simsboro. The crash happened after a DOTD Freightliner truck was parked on a northbound lane of LA-563. A semi-truck driver, a man named Michael Moore, didn’t notice the vehicle and struck it on the roadway. The wreck caused the death of the worker, 50-year-old Johnny Cole, who was pinned underneath the 18-wheeler. Cole was pronounced dead at the scene. Moore was uninjured and given a citation for careless operation. It is unknown if intoxication was a factor in the wreck, and the accident is still under ongoing investigation.
