July 24, 2019 St Tammany Parish, LA – Driver Strikes Two Cars, Falls 30-Feet Into Lake Pontchartrain St Tammany Parish, LA (July 23, 2019) – A driver was arrested shortly after being rescued from a 30-foot-fall into Lake Pontchartrain on Saturday, July 20th. The driver of a 2005 Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 at a high rate of speed when he struck two other vehicles on the Twin Span. The driver has been identified as 28-year-old George Dickinson. Police officials at the scene report that Dickinson struck a vehicle from the rear then drifted to the right, where he hit another vehicle that was disabled on the righthand shoulder. Dickinson then careened over the guardrail on the Twin Span and fell 30 feet into the lake below. Dickinson had a lifejacket on-hand in his vehicle and was properly restrained at the time of the incident, which helped him survive the tremendous fall. The car was damaged significantly in the crash, but Dickinson ultimately survived and was able to be rescued by emergency response units. Dickinson attempted to walk away from the accident but was taken into custody by local officials. He was notably intoxicated at the time of the crash.
