Sunset, LA – Woman & Toddler Involved In Fatal Head-On Crash At I-49 & Zick Miller Rd

Sunset, LA (August 25, 2019) – In the early morning on Sunday, August 25, a deadly collision occurred near Sunset, on Interstate 49 near Zick Miller Rd. Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that the crash took the lives of a 35-year-old woman and a two-year-old passenger.

The woman has been identified as Lacy Leger, who was traveling southbound on the I-49 frontage road in a 2013 Nissan Maxima. Simultaneously, 48-year-old Michael Shane Guidry of Carencro was operating a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup traveling north on the roadway. Guidry veered into oncoming traffic, striking the Maxima head-on.

Both Leger and her two-year-old passenger were properly restrained but sustained fatal injuries in the wreck. A 16-year-old rear-passenger was seriously injured as well.

Guidry was injured in the crash, and it is unknown if impairment was a factor in the collision. The crash is under investigation by LSP.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of Lacy Leger and her young passenger at this time.  Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Louisiana Head-On Collision

Sunset, LA - Woman & Toddler Killed In Head-On Crash At I-49 & Zick Miller RdThe centerline is a crucial factor when determining liability after a car accident. A driver may cross the centerline of a roadway for many reasons. This includes recklessness, fatigue, or poor roadway conditions.

When someone is involved in a wreck with a vehicle that crosses the centerline, they will often sustain severe injuries due to the resulting head-on collision. Unfortunately, in severe cases, victims may even sustain fatal injuries.
