Drunk Driver Suspect Involved in Accident

A woman suspected of driving drunk was arrested Saturday afternoon and held at St. Mary Parish Detention Center on multiple charges, including DWI, when she crashed into another vehicle on Southeast Boulevard near Canal Road in Bayou Vista.  Police say the woman's blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit when the crash occurred around 1 p.m. on Saturday.  Her charges include: driving while intoxicated, careless operation, driving under suspicion, expired driver's license, expired license plate, careless operation, contempt of court, and probation violation.

Any accident involving a drunk driver is a completely avoidable and unfortunate situation.  For this reason, Louisiana law provides that drunk driving is one of the few situations in which punitive damages (additional damages meant to punish) can be received upon a showing of "wanton or reckless disregard for the rights or safety of others."  While this law protects the victims of drunk driving, the "wanton or reckless" standard is very difficult to prove.

That is why it is important to have an experienced and knowledgeable attorney fighting for your rights when you are injured by a drunk driver.  At Fisher Injury Lawyers, we have a team ready to start working on your case at a moment's notice.  We also have the unique advantage of having an in-house engineer and a attorney-engineer, Chris J.
