Calcasieu Parish, LA (September 15, 2019) – Two residents of Sulphur, Louisiana, were killed in a crash on Thursday, September 12. Louisiana State Police (LSP) was at the site of the crash around 8:00 p.m., at the intersection of LA-108 and LA-27. The wreck reportedly involved two vehicles.
Preliminary reports indicated that a 2019 Kia Rio traveling on LA-108 EB driven by Billy J. Cornes, 43, collided with another vehicle after failing to yield during a left-turn on LA-27. Cornes hit a westbound 2014 Ford F-150. Cornes and his passenger, 36-year-old Danielle R. Cornes, sustained fatal injuries.
The driver of the F-150 was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
LSP is currently investigating the cause of the wreck.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Billy and Danielle Cornes at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
A crash involving a failure to yield the right-of-way primarily happens at an intersection when a driver who is traveling through a stop sign or traffic signal strikes or is hit by an oncoming vehicle. Under Louisiana law, a driver who fails to yield and causes a wreck is usually presumed to be responsible.
Failure to yield is due to the negligence of the at-fault driver. These crashes can result in significant injuries. Unfortunately, these accidents can also take the lives of victims.
