Multiple Cyclists Struck on Chef Highway UPDATE


04112014-chef-bicycle-fatalA group of cyclists were struck by a vehicle today on Chef Highway approximately 2 miles from Highway 11 heading towards the Rigolets.  One cyclist was declared deceased while at least one other is in critical condition at a local hospital after being transported there by EMS.  At this time, the cause of the accident is unknown.  However, a likely cause is that the driver was distracted and did not see the cyclists.  Texting and driving is commonly discussed in Louisiana with the recent legislation preventing texting or emailing why driving.  With horrific accidents such as this one occurring more and more often, it is easy to see why.

UPDATE: NOPD has arrested 34 year-old Howard Vidrine in relation to the accident and charged him with negligent homicide, negligent injury, driving on a suspended driver’s license and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
