Interstate 10 Crash

A Lafayette coupled died late Friday night when they were involved in a two-vehicle Interstate 10 crash near La. 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish.

A 2002 Ford F-150 driven by Farnis Keller Jr., 40, of Slaughter, was traveling eastbound on I-10 shortly after 11 p.m. pulling a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle on an eight-foot trailer shortly when the truck’s left front tire blew out, Master Trooper Greg Marchand of Louisiana State Police said.

When Keller lost control and overcorrected, the Ford crossed the median into the westbound lane, where it struck a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by John M. Faul, 66, Lafayette, Marchand said.

The force of the collision pushed the Chevrolet pickup off the road and into the tree line, Marchand said.

Faul and his wife, Elaine C. Faul, 65, of Lafayette, who was sitting in the back seat, were fatally injured in the crash and were pronounced dead by the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office, Marchand said. Both had been wearing seatbelts.

Two other passengers in the Chevrolet pickup truck were transported to a hospital with minor injuries, Marchand said.

This accident remains under investigation but it is clear that the focus of any investigation should be the condition of the blown tire.  The proven trial attorneys at Fisher Injury Lawyers have the experience and expertise to know that this is not a simple accident or that determining legal responsibility for it is easy.  Tires do not simply blow out or rapidly deflate.  We know from involvement in the Firestone tire and Ford rollover cases that a "blowout" signals the need for an intense and thorough investigation.

Was this tire defectively manufactured? Was the carbon content of the rubber too low or too high?  Where the metal belts properly constructed and manufactured?  Was the tire grossly under or over inflated?  Was it over worn?  Who is responsible for any of these omissions?   These are some of the key questions confronting an attorney investigating this tragedy.
