April 17, 2019 Joe Alleva Expected to Step Down Joe Alleva Expected to Step Down LSU Athletics Director Joe Alleva is expected to soon step down from the position he has held at the university for more than a decade according to a high ranking source within the LSU System tells Daily Report. LSU officials declined to comment. Alleva is coming off one of LSU’s strongest seasons in years for its football, basketball, gymnastics and softball teams. However, the embattled athletics director has been an unpopular figure among fans and boosters. Many recall his failure to fire football coach Les Miles in 2015 to ink a deal with Jimbo Fisher. The feeling around LSU was that the popular Miles was disrespected in the process and nothing was achieved. More recently, Alleva drew fan ire for suspending men’s basketball coach Will Wade. Wade was caught on an FBI wiretap investigating a recruitment scandal. The suspension was ostensibly for Wade’s refusal to discuss that matter with LSU and NCAA officials. Wade was reinstated earlier this week after meeting with LSU and the NCAA. Alleva, 65, came to LSU in 2008 from Duke University, where he had served as athletics director. He succeeded Skip Bertman. by Bryan Fisher Louisiana News Louisiana Personal Injury Attorneys, LSU basketball, LSU Football 0 0
