Motorcycle Accident Kills 72 Year Old Man

The Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal accident which involved a single motorcycle.

It happened on Sunday afternoon on Siegen Lane. According to a report from the Louisiana State Troop A, the accident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. The crash took the life of 72 year old Thomas W. Duke of Sunshine, LA.

The report revealed that Duke was riding a 2002 Harley Davidson, heading south on Siegen Lane, when his motorcycle ran off the roadway to the right and struck the concrete curb.

Duke was ejected from his motorcycle.

The report also discloses that Duke was wearing a helmet; however, it was not a DOT approved helmet. He suffered fatal injuries from the crash.

Investigators do not suspect impairment; however, a toxicology sample has been submitted to the state crime lab. It is suspected that driver distraction may have been a factor.

State Troopers released the following statement:

Troopers urge motorcyclists of all ages and experience levels to take extra precautions while riding and ensure that they are properly prepared and trained for a variety of riding conditions. Through participation in certified training programs, riders are educated on safe riding practices such as being visible, dressing for safety, applying effective riding strategies, and knowing the capabilities and limitations of their motorcycle. Motorcyclists are taught how to apply these safety practices to not only avoid being involved in a crash but to greatly reduce the chance of injury should a crash occur.
