Plaquemine, LA – Drunk Driver Arrested After Deadly Wreck On LA-77

Plaquemine, LA (August 10, 2019) – On the evening of Friday, August 9th, Louisiana State Police were at the scene of a wreck involving two vehicles on LA-77, also known as Bayou Jacob Road, west of LA-1 in Iberville Parish. The accident happened late into the evening sometime before 10:00 p.m. Reports from authorities confirm that a 39-year-old woman from Plaquemine was killed in the crash.

The deceased was identified as Julia Patterson. The accident involved a 2002 Chevy Silverado driven by 41-year-old Roger Brigalia. Brigalia and his passengers were traveling east on LA-77. Patterson was traveling west on the highway in a 2016 Nissan Altima. Brigalia crossed the centerline, causing the Silverado to strike the Altima head-on.

Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. It is believed that Brigalia was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was taken into custody after being discharged from the hospital under numerous counts, including possession of illegal substances. The cause of the accident is under investigation by local officials.
