Buckle Up And Save Lives

Buckle up it saves lives.

Seat belts save lives.  It is beyond dispute. It is likely the single act in your daily life that most reduces your risk or injury or death.  Buckle up. Do it for your spouse. Do it for your children. Do it for your friends. Do it for yourself.  Need proof?

A man is dead and eight others were injured after a three-vehicle crash Saturday night (Feb. 4) in the Baton Rouge area, Louisiana State Police said.

A news release from the agency says an unknown man driving a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck was killed when his southbound pickup crossed the centerline of a state highway, sideswiped a northbound car and then collided head-on with a northbound SUV. The drivers of the car that was sideswiped and the SUV that was hit head-on, as well as six passengers in the SUV, received minor to moderate injuries.

The crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. on Louisiana 37, north of Central Thruway, in East Baton Rouge Parish, State Police said. The pickup crossed the center line “for reasons still under investigation,” the agency said. State Police said it’s unknown if impairment was a factor. Toxicology samples were taken from the drivers, including the deceased pickup driver.

The pickup driver was not wearing his seat belt, State Police said. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead on the scene. Police said a 26-year-old woman driving a 2008 BMW 238 that was sideswiped was “properly restrained” and received minor injuries. The 52-year-old man driving the 2004 Ford Explorer that was struck head-on and his six passengers were also properly restrained and suffered injuries “ranging from minor to moderate.”

There it is.  Buckle up. It saves lives.
