Possible ExxonMobil Gasoline Issue Causes Problems in Baton Rouge

gasoline pumpAccording to some news outlets, a batch of bad gasoline might be causing a number of car problems throughout Baton Rouge.  Over the last couple of weeks, hundreds of owners from around the city have brought their cars to their dealerships complaining that they were making loud noises and shaking shortly after leaving the gas station.  Most of the cars also are showing the same error codes, indicating that it is a widespread problem, and leading the dealerships to send off gasoline samples for testing to determine the issue.  Unfortunately, the dealerships aren't yet sure what is causing the problem, so they are unable to fix the vehicles while they sit idly in their lots.

ExxonMobil released a statement acknowledging that they have been made aware of a potential issue with their unleaded gasoline purchased in the Baton Rouge area.  In response, they have shut down the Baton Rouge terminal gasoline loading racks while they investigate the issue.  In the mean time, those owners with affected cars are forced to wait for the results of the gasoline quality tests and ExxonMobil's investigation to figure out who is responsible for these problems.

For the time being, it is probably best to avoid buying regular unleaded gasoline from ExxonMobil locations in the Baton Rouge area until the affected gas stations have been determined.  If you think your car has been damaged by bad gasoline and is shaking or making unusually loud noises, make sure to bring it into your dealership or mechanic as soon as possible.  Write down the gas station that you purchased the gasoline from and keep your receipt if you received one.  If it is later determined that ExxonMobil is at fault by selling bad gasoline, these steps will help you prove that you purchased the tainted gasoline.
