July 17, 2019 Vinton, LA – Three-Vehicle Accident Involving 18-Wheeler on I-10 Vinton, LA (July 17, 2019) – Around 6:30 p.m. last evening, July 16th, a three-vehicle accident took place involving an 18-wheeler in Vinton that took one life. Police have since identified the party whose life was taken as 54-year-old Stephen Duane Bertram. State Police discovered at the time of the accident that an 18-wheeler driven by 34-year-old Justin Anthony Chong had been traveling east on I-10. The vehicle, for reasons that are not known, ran off the left side of the road, crossing the median and then striking a pickup truck, as well as Bertram’s SUV. The accident had been a serious head-on collision. Police claim that, by the time paramedics arrived, Bertram was already pronounced deceased due to the nature of the crash. The driver of the pickup truck sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Chong had a 3-year-old and 8-year-old present in his vehicle at the time and they were also hospitalized, but expected to recover. The investigation continues at this time and charges are pending.
